The end of day 1

What a day. Things for Team GB didn’t go according to plan with both Ashley and Kelly picking up World number 2 and 1 respectively.
Both fought really well but their Olympic medal dream came to an end.

At back of house, we were allocated specific ‘jobs’. My rota started with guard duty of position 507 for an hour. This is where the competitors re-enter BOH after their contest.
Was due to start there at 8:30 which was fine …. contest didnt start until 9am 🙂

So, having got to the venue at 7:25, I had been given my first post.
Yay, the Olympics have begun…

…unfortunately, I didn’t see a single competitor through 507 as no sooner had contests begun, my team leader needed to move things around.
Apparently, they were having problems around judogi control and could I help there

Of course I’d help – teamwork an all that. Except we clearly made it look difficult as, one after another, others told our Team Leader that would rather not do that role either

So, having arrived at the Olympics being 50% unsure as to what I’d be doing, it’s now very clear.
My job is to ensure that the players get to the mat ontime…..hmmm, this sounds familiar. Oh wait, it should….I do almost exactly the same thing at other major tournaments in the UK

I left the arena earlier today – about 17:30 – and have managed to get “home” and freshen up

What to do now…..pub anyone?

Ready for day one?

So, as the competition is about to start, I’m positioned just outside judogi control (where the athletes judogi are checked just before they are allowed on to the mat)

The two TVs I’m looking at are unlikely to be the pictures you are seeing at home but heres a few pics to be going on with

Long day

It’s hard to believe that after arriving at the venue at 6:30 this morning, I’m still en route to my friends house

Hopefully, in the next 15 minutes, I’ll be able to get out of this uniform

Good news, we have our first contests starting in the morning. Will probably watch the start of the Opening Ceremony (due to start in 25 mins) and close me eyes

Night all

At least one more hours sleep

First one to arrive at the venue for Judo. In 45 minutes, my first shift starts….so where are the workforce peeps???

Don’t know what all the security concerns are. Have already been through an X-ray machine and had my badge checked three times!!!

No fighting today

…so why the early start. Woke up at 4am this morning – about 1.5 hours before my first alarm so wanted to get more sleep.
Less than an hour later, I’m in the shower and getting ready.

Am now at Barking tube station and on my way to shift number 1

If there’s no competition today, I wonder what we’ll be doing

The last beer before the event

I know that I’m in for some long days over the coming weeks. A chance to grab a beer at my local before I get off

Last day in the office

Today is the last day in the office for me until I make the trip to London to join my colleagues for the Olympics.

I suppose I should be getting excited but I dont feel it just yet

Getting ready now

Since first collecting my Olympic uniform almost two months ago, it has been in a vacuum sealed bag.

Tonight, it gets unwrapped, washed (if necessary) and then hung up in preparation for the trip to London on Thursday night
