And so, the end of the blog

Well, that ends Team GB Paralympic Judo for London 2012.
What a good way to wrap things up with a Silver for Sam

Congratulations to all of our athletes. It’s time to pick up the medals and put the mats away

Thanks for reading my blog. I know that many of you only watched this spectacle on TV; being here is something else and I hope at least some of you were able to see at least one sport live.

Roll on Rio

Mark

Sam’s last stand

A place in the final is one thing. But we all want one result. Will today be the day?

Joe, the repechage and

Ippon????

When I first saw it and heard the referee announce ippon, I thought that was a bit generous. What I didn’t expect was for the referees to award the contest _against_ Joe

We saw the replay and, from that angle, I’m still unclear how they called it.

Will this be another controversy?

And a place in the final for Sam

Another hard fight. Sam won this on penalties – his opponent really couldn’t touch him

Several times, the contest went to the ground and the crowd longed for a strangle; it wasn’t to be though
Finals are much later

A Korean too far

That was an exceptionally difficult contest. After 5 minutes, Joe was beaten by a waza-ari but will come back later in the repechage

And Sam makes it through

Less than one minute and he catches his opponent, Dartanyon Crockett, for ippon

This contest will be followed immediately by Joe’s second

Joe takes to the mat

And, after just 2 minutes, counters his opponents drop seoi-nage and gets the ippon

And so begins my final day at London 2012

It’s hard to believe that a little over 4 weeks ago, I had only taken part in the test event yet today marks the end

It’s not been easy at all. I have seen very little of other sports but, when you are working both sessions without a break, it is not surprising that my feet always guide me to the bed as quickly as possible once we have finished for the day

One resounding thought though is how glad I am to have been able to be part of this show. I was one of very few people to take part in both sets of Games and am very keen on the idea of working at Rio; although I would need to learn Portuguese in less than 4 years!

I’m probably going to treat myself to a few beers this evening – I deserve it 🙂

Will be posting updates today as our second set of brothers take to the mat for TeamGB

How to sum up the morning

A bad day at the office. Both Marc and Dan lost their openers. Marc got a place in the repechage but, being a waza-ari up (due to penalties), lost to a big ippon-seoi-nage

Day two commences

We have two athletes representing Team GB today :- brothers Marc and Dan Powell

The atmosphere here is so much more gentle but these athletes are by no means less committed

Here’s hoping for a good day
